Find a brief outline of each lesson for the drama class underneath with the drama techniques that were used and the tasks for writing in role that the students had to fulfill. Lesson 1 (January 8, 2002) - calling to mind what a drama lesson consists of (warm-up activity, keying into role, keying into location, exploring the topic) - explanation of the topic for the drama project: money, wealth and the consequences of having or losing it - negotiating a drama learning contract The whole lesson served to build up the students' belief and to establish the drama context. Drama techniques: role-play (to build up the necessary vocabulary to talk about finances) Writing in role: students develop a short portrait of themselves For comments from the teacher's diary click here. Lesson 2 (January 15, 2002) - filling in form with drama identities - representation of each character's favourite room at home - introducing each other to one's personality and dwelling place - speculating about a possible inheritance from aunt Selma Drama techniques: paper location (see photos for an illustration of this technique), role play Writing in role: letter to Selma explaining what they would do with a possible inheritance For comments from the teacher's diary click here. Lesson 3 (January 29, 2002) - group discussion: consequences of acquiring sudden wealth (based on internet search about lotteries) - newspaper article: winners or losers (text on the negative sides of making a windfall) - letter (introducing linkers) - report about Thaddeus Coats, an actual winner in the lottery - advice to a winner in the lottery Drama techniques: group discussion Writing in role: letter to Thaddeus giving him advice on what to do with his money For comments from the teacher's diary click here. Lesson 4 (February 5, 2002) - language input: 'I wish'/'if only'- assumed time-lapse: Selma has taken her decision, the students show what has happened in the meantime, if they have been lucky or left out, what happened after their inheritance.
